Build colour looks for busking

Put a handful of complete colour combinations for the whole rig on buttons (Ice, Fire, Acid, Mono …), so one press changes the colour of everything and never touches intensity or position. Why this works and how it compares with other colour concepts: Colour concepts for busking.

Requirements:

1. Make a colour-only filter

You need it once, for all looks.

  1. Edit an empty object in the Filter pool; the Edit Filter pop-up opens.
  2. Tap None in the title bar, then turn on the Color preset type. Yellow text means "passes the filter".
  3. Close the pop-up and label the filter Colour only.

2. Store each look on its own executor

  1. Clear the programmer.
  2. Select the first group and tap its colour preset (Washes → Deep blue), then the next group and its preset (Bars → Cyan, Beams → White). Only colour values should be active.
  3. Press Store, then the button of an empty executor. The console creates a new sequence with cue 1 and assigns it to that executor.
  4. Label the executor (Ice), clear the programmer, and repeat for the next look on the next button.

3. Make the executors colour-only and exclusive

For each look executor:

  1. Playback filter: with the Filter pool visible, press Assign, tap Colour only, then press the look's executor button. The executor now plays colour only, whatever the sequence contains.
  2. Input filter (optional): Assign, Colour only, then the look's sequence in the Sequence pool (or Assign Filter 1 Sequence 12). Later stores into that sequence then take colour only.
  3. Options: press Assign and an executor key, tap Options, set Priority to LTP and turn on Off On Overwritten. The last-pressed look wins, and the previous one switches itself off once it has lost all its attributes.
  4. Key function: Toggle or Go on the button.

4. Set the fade

Open the sequence and set the cue's Fade: snap (0 s) for looks you throw on a drop, a few seconds for looks you change during the groove. The executor's rate changes it live without reprogramming.

5. Optional: variations in one look

Store more cues into the same look sequence, e.g. Store Cue 2 Executor 1.101 for Ice B (same palette, colours swapped between the groups). Go on the executor steps through the variations.

Check it

  • Run Ice, then Fire: the rig changes colour, Ice switches off.
  • Pull every dimmer fader down and press a look: nothing lights up. A colour look only decides what a fixture shows when the intensity layer brings it up. (LED fixtures need a dimmer or a virtual dimmer for this; see Colour.)
  • In the mini executor, the executor number is marked: that's the playback filter.
