Make one colour preset work across fixture types

Store a colour such as Deep blue once, so that the washes, the bars and the beams all show a matching blue when you call it, each with its own values.

Requirements: the fixtures are patched, and there is one group per fixture type (Washes, Bars, Beams …).

Build the preset

  1. Select all fixture types that should get the colour (the groups one after the other, or an All colour group).
  2. Open the colour picker and set a starting colour. Fixtures with mixing get the nearest mix, colour-wheel fixtures the nearest slot, depending on the preferred engine (Prefer MixColor is the usual one).
  3. Tune each type by eye. Select one type's group, adjust its colour attributes until it matches the others on stage, then go on to the next type. The values of the types you've finished stay in the programmer.
  4. For a wheel-only fixture, pick the closest slot, or leave it open/white for this colour.
  5. Press and hold Store until the Temporary Store Options pop-up opens. Tap Preset Type Default until it reads Global, then close the pop-up.
  6. Tap an empty slot in the Color preset pool. Label it (Deep blue). On the command line, steps 5 and 6 are Store Preset 4.1 /global (4 = Color).
  7. Clear the programmer.

Repeat for every colour of your palette, one per slot, in a fixed order (see Organising groups and presets).

A first grid to tune from

Auto Create with additional presets can generate global mix colours for all fixtures. Tune those instead of starting from scratch.

Check it

Select each group alone and tap the preset: every type should come up in its tuned value. In the preset pool, a global preset shows an orange G.

Retune it later (new venue, new fixture)

  1. Tap the preset once: the fixtures it contains are selected.
  2. Tap it again: the values are active in the programmer.
  3. Change the types that look wrong.
  4. Press Update. In the Update pop-up set the option to Global, and choose Add new content if you added a fixture type, Original content otherwise.
  5. Tap Update Preset.

Every cue and look that links to the preset follows.
