Build a layout of the room

Draw your rig as a map: the fixtures where they are in the room, plus the groups and presets you reach for, all in one window you can select from. On a dark night it's quicker to tap "the bar above the booth" than to remember its fixture number. What layouts are and how they relate to the 3D stage: Moving heads.

Requirements: the fixtures are patched, and the groups you want on the map exist.

Create the layout

  1. Tap an empty spot in the user-defined area of a screen. The Create Basic Window pop-up opens.
  2. Tap Pools, then Layout Pool.
  3. Open a fixture sheet and select the fixtures you want on the map (all of them, for a small rig).
  4. Press Store and tap an empty cell in the layout pool. The layout is created with the selected fixtures in it. Label it (Room).

Arrange it like the room

  1. Tap an empty spot again, then Other → Layout View. The layout view opens and shows the selected layout.
  2. Enable Setup in the layout view's title bar. The layout view encoder bar appears; with Setup on you edit single objects, with Setup off the view works like the programmer.
  3. Tap a fixture and move it to where it hangs or stands in the room. Position 1 of 3 in the encoder bar toggles between position, size and style.
  4. To line up a row (the LED bars on the pipe, the heads on the floor), select the objects and choose an array in the encoder bar.
  5. Fixtures can appear only once in a layout; to add more later, select them, press Store, tap the layout view and choose Merge.

Put groups and presets on it

  1. Press Assign Group and the group number (for example 3), then tap the spot in the layout view where the button should go.
  2. Do the same with the presets you use while busking (position DJ booth, Crowd), or with macros.
  3. Disable Setup when you're done.

Hint from the manual

Arrange the layout pool and the layout view on one screen, so you can switch layouts and select at a glance.

Check it

  • With Setup off, select fixtures in the layout view and look at the command line: the selection should match.

To verify in onPC: check 34

  • Tap a group button on the map: the group is selected.

  • Apply a dimmer effect with a phase spread to a selection made on the map, and see which way the wave runs.
